HeRSTORY to Partner with Toronto Six

July 7, 2020 <> Wesley Chapel, FL - The HeRSTORY Virtual Women’s Sports Museum today announced a new partnership with the Toronto Six (The Six) of the National Women’s Hockey League to launch The Six Magazine, a digital publication dedicated to covering women’s sports, recognizing leading female business executives, and supporting inclusion. The digital publication is scheduled to launch in August 2020 and will include features on leaders in women’s sports, player interviews, social commentary, an inside look at the first season of The Toronto Six, videos and more.

“The HeRSTORY Virtual Women’s Sports Museum has a mission to bring the stories of women to life and help the next generations learn from them so they can carry the torch,” said Jeff Novotny, co-founder of Herstory. “Teaming with The Toronto Six is a great opportunity for us to better link our resources, spotlight their role models and keep our dialogues relevant and meaningful.”

Follow 100 Women Who Inspire Us to Vote on Instagram

The HerStory Museum has launched a campaign on instagram called 100 Women Who Inspire Us to Vote. Starting May 18, 2020 and continuing for 99 more days, we are posting key information about inspirational women in US history that were instrumental in getting the 19th Amendment to the Constitution developed and ratified in 1920. For the last 100 years there have been others who have inspired us in many ways that we will recognize from business leaders, to civil rights activists to sports heroes and celebrities who have used their time, treasures and talents to make America a better place for women and for all. Concluding on the 100th Anniversary of the Women’s Right to Vote, over these 100 days, learn more about women who may have been forgotten along the road to this important milestone. We will also provide some calls to action. So please follow this inspirational journey on instagram at @get_herstory. Every post will be saved on our website here so you can relive each day and learn more, hopefully inspiring you to vote too.

Digit Murphy Inducted in Rhode Island Hockey Hall of Fame

On September 6, 2019, HeRSTORY’s own Digit Murphy was inducted into the Rhode Island Hockey Hall of Fame with 9 other well-deserving nominees. The Rhode Island Hockey Hall of Fame inducted ten hockey legends on Friday night at Twin River. The inductees include Brother Adelard Beaudet, Malcolm Greene Chace, Brian Boucher, Brian Burke, Jack Capuano, Pete Demers, Judge James E. The GRIT meets HeRSTORY

August 9, 2019 - Wesley Chapel, FL - The HeRSTORY Museum was host to new live recordings of The GRIT podcast which will be posted sometime in September 2019. Digit Murphy in her summer apparel arrived in Wesley Chapel on August 9 and recorded 4 new episodes and a new recurring segment called “Ask the Athlete”.

The first interview was with Gordie Zimmermann, the general manager and managing partner of AdventHealth Center Ice. Gordie and Digit chatted about how the impacts of the HeRSTORY Museum at the ice center as well as the impact of women in sports.

Next up was Carly Norman who was one of the recipients of the inaugural scholarships awarded by the HeRSTORY Museum a few months ago. Carly recently graduated from Wiregrass Ranch High School and will be attending the University of Central Florida seeking a degree in physical therapy. She talked about her adventure in sports including how she was instrumental in starting the first lacrosse team at Wiregrass Ranch.

Third interviewee was Hope Allen, the CEO of the North Tampa Bay Chamber of Commerce. Digit and her talked about the increasingly involvement of women in business and how the Chamber was so excited the first HeRSTORY Museum is located in Wesley Chapel.

The last interview was a group discussion with three pre-teen girls from Wesley Chapel. Sofia Esposito, Ella Weatherford and Cali Esposito talked with Digit about their experiences in sports and school as well as some of their heros. In addition to their group interview, each of the girls also recorded a question that will be included on future episodes in a new segment called “Ask the Athlete”. Those questions will be posed to women who Digit interviews in the future.

2019 HeRSTORY Scholarship Winners

On Thursday May 23, Amanda Novotny awarded a $2000 scholarship to Carswell Norman from Wiregrass Ranch High School. She will be attending the University of Central Florida in the fall. Thanks to SRG for their matching amount in support of our scholarship program!

On Tuesday May 28, Jeff Novotny awarded a $2000 scholarship to Madyson Dalton from Wesley Chapel High School. She will be attending Hillsborough Community College in the fall.

On Tuesday May 28, Jeff Novotny awarded a $2000 scholarship to Mackenzie Mealor from Wesley Chapel High School. She will be attending the University of Central Florida in the fall.
